Gingerbread men!

Caden NEVER ever ever complains when his food is different from everyone else's. Never. And he never complains when he can't have a candy on offer somewhere. Ever. So last year when we left his Kindergarten holiday concert bathed in tears because the cookies I brought to the party were NOT gingerbread men like the other kids had, the only promise I could offer my surprisingly heartbroken boy was the promise of gingerbread men for this year's concert. So today, despite the fact it was a crazy day for other reasons, we made gluten-free gingerbread men. And then I decided to let the children go nuts with icing and sprinkles. There was much glee and until the infamous sprinkle incident (Caden removed the shaker top of the sprinkle bottle to "help" me and Duncan did not realize and went to shake a few more sprinkles out, you can picture the rest I'm sure) very little mess... just lots of intent children with trying (and failing) to make perfect icing buttons. And I have a beautifully sprinkly gingerbread man sitting on the counter all set to go to Caden's holiday concert tomorrow (where they will inevitably serve a different kind of cookie and hopefully he will not mind).
