SKATING DAY!

Cleverly, I took both boys to open skate by myself today. Caden has hockey try-outs on Monday and he has never skated in full hockey gear before (we begged and borrowed a full set of gear other than skates and a helmet for try-outs) and we wanted him to get a few practice sessions in before then. Of course, that meant I had to be on the ice and that meant Duncan did too! Luckily, Duncan fits into Caden's skates and helmet from when he started skating at 3 1/2 so off we went!

I took a dozen pictures of Caden in his gear this morning. He has his eyes closed in every single one. I told him this did not bode well for hockey as it's hard to skate with your eyes closed.

Duncan was SO excited to 'kate. SO excited. Then we got there and put his gear on and he changed his mind. The helmet put him over the edge. He'd been insanely grumpy all morning so we just pushed through and got him on the ice. He LOVED it. He was terrible and I got the ab workout of the century holding him up, even with the pusher, but he desperately wants a hockey stick and he has to be able to skate on his own two feet for one so he was determined. He wanted to keep going long after Caden said he was done and I had to bribe him with the promise of fries for lunch to get him off!

Caden ran into a preschool friend and his grandpa, also preparing for try-out day and was delighted to skate around for a while.
