Our Hallowe'en week started with a fun party at our local art studio. The kids wore their costumes (Yes, Duncan was Luigi AGAIN, Caden was Harry Potter and Teagan, to this party, was a mouse).
Then we had our annual pumpkin carving party with friends to which Duncan wore last year's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Costume and Teagan was a moose. Caden, of course, stuck with Harry Potter.
Our big project this year, though, was Teagan's trick or treat costume. Like she did last year, T trick or treated for canned goods for the food bank with some friends. They came up with the very clever idea of dressing like cans and I, like the crazy woman I am, agreed to make these costumes. I had a great idea of how to do it but in the end needed a lot of help from Brian to pull it together. We make a pretty good team actually.
We started with pop up laundry hampers and silver fabric.
I cut out the bottom and cut out arm holes.
Then I wrapped it in silver fabric, so far so good.
But now the tricky part - the girls wanted the cans to have labels that said "We Scare Hunger" and they wanted them to all be the same! Brian ended up making a template and painting them all. Here's the prototype.
Then, we just had to make 2 more the same!
The girls collected nearly 200 cans for their school food drive and had a great time doing it (in the rain!).
The boys trick or treated for candy and happily shared with Teagan so that went well too.
We also did our annual amazing pumpkins. Each year, I am less and less needed in the carving process. I think next year I'll have to get my own pumpkin to carve!
