Arts and crafts

Yesterday, we went to the Home Depot free kids workshop and we made butterfly houses. While I was trying to keep Duncan from hammering his own fingers (or mine), visiting with my friend Rebecca, and checking that Teagan had lined the pieces up correctly each time (at her request), Caden went ahead and built a beautiful butterfly box all on his own because, apparently, he's mechanically inclined like his father. He did better than I did - I was so distracted that I nailed the back of the house (the FIRST piece, mind you) on backwards and had to disassemble Duncan's house completely to fix it.

When we got home, the debate raged about whether we actually NEEDED 3 butterfly houses. In the end, it was decided that the box Teagan had built was for Grandma Marti to cheer her up during her knee surgery convalescence, that Caden's was for Nanny (so she could amuse Rhianna during their visit and have something else to take pictures of and draw), and that Duncan's was for Jamie (because EVERY craft he does is for Jamie!). Only that left us with no butterfly houses for our house! So Jamie, sorry to say, YOUR butterfly house is to live at our house and we will take pictures of YOUR butterflies (at our house, thankyouverymuch) and send them to you.

It was decided that the kids would paint the boxes today and then tomorrow decorate them before we laquered them and sent them off or hung them up. Teagan and Duncan were confident in their colour choices and only Caden needed more information and so, he picked up the phone and dialed Nanny. The conversation went something like this.

"Hi Nanny!"
"Hi Sweetie!"
"Nanny, what's your favorite colour?"
"Ummm... pink?"
"Ok, that's all I needed. Bye!"
Click.

Nanny showed GREAT restraint in not calling right back in a puzzle. And of course, Mum, now you must now act completely surprised when you get your butterfly house. Can you guess which one it is below?

It's the green one of course.

And no, I'm not kidding, he's just like that.
