The beginning of the birthday train

With 2 boys born 3 years and 1 day apart, the end of April is always very busy for us. This year, Caden's birthday fell on Easter (something that won't happen again in my lifetime) which added a layer of complexity to our party planning! In the end, each boy wanted a seperate party, at home, and then we had a joint family party/Easter.

I think this will take a few days worth of posts so bear with me!

First, was Duncan's party (which is funny since he's younger AND his birthday is later but it just worked out this way!). He had 7 little friends over for a pirate party! And no, you're not imagining it, this is a repeat of Caden's 4th birthday (minus the gorgeous weather, sadly).

Duncan requested pirate cupcakes with sprinkles!

We made paper telescopes, wore pirate bandanas, and dug for buried treasures (plastic coins in a bin of rice)

We walked the plank!

We played with pirate toys (even our friendly neighbor baby got in on this act - don't you want to snuggle this cutie?!)

After pizza and cake....

It was time for presents! He loved everything and is picking up Caden's "I love it! It's my favorite!" enthusiasm. He hasn't put red toad down since!

And in the end, he was tired but happy and he actually "got it" that he was still 3 for 8 more days (unlike Caden at this age who believed he turned 4 at his friend party and then, logically, turned 5 at this actual birthday!). Then we cleaned up so we could do it all over again the next day, with bigger kids!
